In our Century is the Iconic example of Container Shipping

The Story goes to 1937 where at a New Jersey dockyard, a trucker, one Mr. Malcolm McLean, was impatiently watching the piece-meal unloading of his truck’s cargo to ship and it struck him, ‘what if the entire truckload could be boxed and lifted to ship at one go?’

Although this story is publicized on the Net, the reality that it took another 20 years to bring ‘containerization’ to shipping as a safe and standard practise is generally under appreciated.
